Oliver Brown and his family who own “Hunters Haven” which is one of the oldest farms in the county, also called “the beautiful piece of their countryside home,” were selected this year to receive the “Outstanding Business Award for 2005.” This presentation was made recently by the Culpeper County Chamber of Commerce.
Brown is known by many in the horse community as he is the joint Master of the Rappahannock Hunt. His entire family enjoys hunting including wife Joan, son Michael and daughter, Samantha, Kristen and Libby, all of whom are engaged in farm activities. This farm has been in the family since 1930, and Brown has lived there for the past 30 years raising his horses. Our community congratulates this family upon receiving this award.
With our thoughts centered on Easter and its meaning we are reminded of the legend that the cross on which Jesus Christ was crucified was made from a dogwood tree. The four petals of the dogwood flower represent the shape of the cross with the center resembling the crown of thorns in bright red clusters representing the blood of Christ.
Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Mills spent the recent weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Loren Hoover and baby son, Grant, in Carlyle, Pa.
