That next step includes searching traffic traveling through Rappahannock for illegal substances.
Mauck is currently training with Trooper Kris Chapman, who has been with the Virginia State Police for three years, based out of Fauquier County.
“He is very enthusiastic,” Chapman said of his protege, adding that the new trooper recently wrote 26 summons within a four hour period during Operation Blue and Gray.
“We sort of turned him loose that day and he did well,” the veteran trooper said.
Mauck is looking forward to working in Rappahannock County, saying, “I want to be a resource to local law enforcement, to be another officer people can come to for help in the county.”
