Carroll H. Petty

Born in Rappahannock

Carroll H. “Jack” Petty, 81, of Front Royal, died March 26 at Lynn Care Center in Front Royal.

Mr. Petty was bom March 31, 1923 in Boston, Va. (Rappahannock County), son of the late Mark Reid and Mary Lillard Petty.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving aboard the U.S.S. Halsey Powell in World War II and participated in six major battles in the Pacific Theatre of Operations between ’943 and 1945.Mr. Petty worked for American Viscose for 58 years and then worked as a security guard for Sectex and RAC Security. He was a member of the Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church in Boston, Front Royal VFW Post 1860 and American Legion, Giles B. Cook Post 53.

Mr. Petty is survived by his wife of 57 years Jo Anne Petty of Front Royal; two daughters Carol Anne Ritenour and Kay Marble both of Front Royal; one son James F. Petty of Browntown.

Additional survivors include six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was held March 30, at Maddox Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Young. Burial was followed in Prospect Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by the U.S. Navy and Winchester VFW Post 2123.
