John Fletcher, Secretary. By September of 1825 there were 29 members. By 1828 the congregation had grown to 225 members.
The property was originally purchased from Bryant O’Bannon and wife Polly and Aaron Arden and his wife Elizabeth for $1.00. The property originally consisted of approximately one acre and contained two buildings. This location was chosen because there was a good spring at the foot of the hill where the horses could be tethered and watered.
It wasn’t until 1848 that talks began to erect the present day church. Fund raising was begun immediately and the plans were drawn. The building would be 40’ by 50’ with the walls having a depth of 2’. The plans also called for three doors, typical of the early meeting houses where men, women and colored must enter separately. It took seven years to erect the building with much of the labor and materials being donated.
