4-H Jumble sale
The Rappahannock 4-H Livestock Club is seeking items from the community for its second annual Jumble Sale on Saturday April 9 at the Flint Hill Fire station. Some of the county’s antique furniture, collectibles, and other household items will be for sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Shoppers can buy refreshments, raffle tickets and meet members of the dub. No clothing please. Items that are related to Rappahannock County are especially appredated. Donations are tax deductible. While you shop, enjoy music by Debbie Zinn. Contad Jim Massie (937-5361) to arrange to have any items picked up. Proceeds of the sale will go to support the sale of their livestock at the Culpeper, Madison and Rappahannock Farm Fair.
Hearthstone's auction
Mark your calendars and plan to attend Sperryville’s most lively auction on Saturday, April 9 from 3-6 p.m. Hearthstone’s most significant, yearly fundraising event begins with an hour long silent auction at 3 p.m. at the school, located west of Sperryville on Rt. 211. Donations of goods and services from the community are gratefully received by calling 987-9212. Items can also be dropped off during school hours.
Sign Language of the Soul
Dr. Dale Schusterman will hold a weekend course presenting his latest material and insights drawn from his book “Sign Language of the Sour. Vertical Cabernet Sauvignon tasting
Vertical Cabernet Sauvignon tasting will be held on Saturday, April 9 from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m at Gray Ghost in Amissville. On April 9 Smokehouse Winery of Sperryville will host an evening of music starting at 8 p.m. which will feature Dulcimer, Guitar, Percussion, Voice et al. Spring cleanup
The first spring deanup project of Route 231 for a couple of miles from Route 522 to Ashby Road will take place on April 10 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Ki Theatre announces spring season
Two one-act plays by Russia’s most famous playwright, Anton Chekhov, open Ki Theatre’s spring season on Saturday, April 16. These short plays (“The Marriage Proposal” and “The Bear”), sire set in rural Russia in the late 19th century. Both are famous for Chekhov’s comic interpretations of romantic reality. Wine Dinner
There will be a wine dinner at the Griffin Tavern on Wednesday, April 20. They are featuring wines from Rappahannock Cellars and a rep will be on hand to pour and discuss each wine. Lions Club Annual Auction
Rappahannock Lions Club President, Ken Marlor, announced that the annual auction will be held on April 30 at Bill Payne’s Auction Gallery in Amissville. History Comes Alive
The Gray Ghost Interpretive Group (GGIG for short) is making history come alive in the new weekend program of the Mosby Heritage Area Association. GGIG is a group of volunteer students and adults who under the leadership of Richard Gillespie, the Diredor of Education for MHAA, both entertain and inform participants with their presentation of Cavaliers, Courage and Coffee: The Night Belonged to Mosby.
The interpretation of Colonel John S. Mosby’s life and the issues surrounding this Confederate cavalry officer is presented in a series of vignettes throughout the village of Atoka (4 miles west of Middleburg on Route 50). Known as Rector’s Cross Roads during the Civil War, the village was frequently used as a location for Mosby to assemble his Rangers for their raids, including the famous Fairfax Court House Raid where General Edwin Stoughton was caught sleeping.
The presentation is made twice on the second weekend of the month through June. The next performance will be on Saturday, April 9, at 8 p.m. in the evening by lantern light and on Sunday, April 10, at 3 p.m. in the afternoon. The program is offered free to the public.
