“Ladies in Lavender” stars Judi Dench and Maggie Smith as spinster sisters who live in a tiny fishing village in Cornwall, England in 1936. Based on a short story by English writer William J. Locke and the directorial and screenwriting debut of veteran actor Charles Dance, the film portrays the sisters whose peaceful, meticulously orchestrated lives are seriously affected by the arrival of a young houseguest. Showing at The Theatre on Gay Street, Washington, VA, Friday, January 6, 8:00 p.m., ‘Ladies’opens the winter film season sponsored by the Rappahannock Association for the Arts and the Community.
