that Olga is on holiday in Cornwall to improve her painting skills. When Olga and Andrea bond over their shared love of art and music, Janet and Ursula grow mistrustful of her and of Andrea’s growing ambitions. Feeling threatened by Olga and by the fact that Andrea is attracted to her, the old sisters begin to understand that they will one day have to let Andrea go.
Seeing “Ladies in Lavender” is like stumbling into another era for a time. The film seems to be about love in many forms but in the end it is a yearning kind of love for things that are gone and cannot return. ‘Ladies’ holds you in a gentle but compelling grip till the finish.
The film is rated PG-13 for brief crude language. Run time is 104 minutes.
