Rappahannock County’s 2005 is almost over, and in all likelihood, 2006 is just around the comer. Rappahannock has had a full year, and this brief rehashing is intended to remind, readers of a few of the many important events of2005.
Election
In 2005, Rappahannock County went completely to Democratic candidates for the first time since 1965. A large reason for this shift was a re-energized Rappahannock Democratic Party, which fielded native son Jim Blubaugh in the race for 15th District Delegate against Ibdd Gilbert of Shenandoah County. Although Blubaugh lost his race, his hard working campaign seemed to make progress for the democrats in a county that has traditionally been a Republican bastion. Clevenger’s Comer
Last January, the Culpeper County Board of Supervisors approved a rezoning application to allow Centex homes to build a 774 home “village center” just outside the Rappahannock County border on US 211. The effects of this huge planned development on the county have yet to be fully realized, but so much growth so close to home is sure to make changes.
