Dale Schusterman is returning to Rappahannock County January 14 to share another important piece of his teaching called Family Constellations based on the work of Bert Hellinger. Dale Schusterman is a chiropractic physician and practiced in the county for years. He came back in April to present his healing approach ‘Sign Language of the Soul’. Schusterman incorporates many approaches in his healing, including Family Constellations. In 2001, he completed the first year long Hellinger training in the US sponsored by the Bert Hellinger Institute, USA. He facilitates Family Constellation trainings and workshops in the Washington, D.C. Area, v Bert Hellinger, who lives in Germany, is an immensely popular figure in Europe among members of the international therapy community. His work has propelled him to the forefront of contemporary family therapy. Hellinger’s basic tool for helping family members restore balance is the use of family constellations. The purpose of this method is to galvanize the energy of everyone involved toward a greater sense of wellbeing. The book, “Love’s hidden symmetry -What makes love work in relationships” describes and demonstrates what Hellinger calls the orders of love and how disturbances in the orders of love create a legacy that must be reckoned with for generations to come. According to Hellinger, these deeply embedded forces in the family system can be harnessed for healing once they are acknowledged, respected and gently redirected.

Membership in a group implies benefits. In families, these benefits often come with a steep price. In order to belong we often take on the pain of earlier members in our ancestry, even if we are unaware of what has happened to our forefathers and foremothers. The consequences may result in illness, ; depression, anxiety recurrent fears, addictions, poor life choices, and failed relationships. These are all forms of this unspoken family loyalty. Constellation Work allows us to break unconscious patterns and reestablish our vitality, tranquility and dignity.

How it works: Representatives from the group are chosen to stand in for the actual family members. They are then placed in spatial relationship to each other. Hidden loyalties within the family begin to emerge, indicating the underlying dynamics. As the patterns begin to unfold and reconcile, the blocked love and strength in a family can begin to flow in a healthy way. Both participants and observers can experience the nrofound effects of this work.
