On Dec. 1, PEC was awarded a $200,000 grant by the Virginia Land Conservation Fund (VLCF) for the acquisition of the Rappahannock Station Battlefield Park in Remington. Earlier this year, this property, which is Fauquier County’s only major battlefield, was threatened with imminent development. In response to a grassroots movement, the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors purchased the property in June, with the understanding that within a year PEC would raise $500,000, more than half of the purchase price for this new public park.
