BOARD OF SUPERVISORS:
Public Hearing for an ordinance to provide for the implementation of the 2004-2005 changes to the
1998 Personal Property Tax Relief Act
On Wednesday, January 4, 2006, at 7:00PM at the Rappahannock County Courthouse on Gay Street in Washington, Virginia, the Board of Supervisors of Rappahannock County shall hold a public hearing to consider a proposed ordinance amending the Rappahannock County Code to provide for personal property tax relief. These amendments are necessary in order to comply with changes adopted by the General Assembly of Virginia in 2005 to the Personal Property Tax Relief Act.
These legislative changes require the County of Rappahannock to select among several options for the computation and allocation of tax relief provided pursuant to the Personal Property Tax Relief Act.
The Personal Property Tax Relief Act now provides for the appropriation to the County, commencing in 2006, of a fixed sum to be used exclusively for the provision of tax relief to owners of qualifying personal use vehicles that are subject to the personal property tax. The County has two options to choose between as to how to calculate the allocation of such sum among taxpayers. The County also has the option, and proposes, to exempt from taxation qualifying vehicles valued at $1000 or less.
A complete copy of the proposed amendments is available for inspection at the County Administration Office, 290 Gay Street, Washington, VA., from 8:30-4:30 Monday through Friday.
