Bill Allred’s Classic Jazz Band returns to The Theatre at Washington, Virginia for a concert on Saturday, June 10 at 8 p.m. And, according to Allred, the band “is swinging as hard as ever.”
“Things Ain’t What They Used lb Be” is the title of the band’s most recent CD, and will be the theme of the upcoming concert. That music was written by Mercer Ellington, the late Duke’s son. Among other music to be played, is a concert arrangement of Jerome Kern’s “Old Man River.” Besides great and perennially popular music such as these numbers, the band has always been interested in finding, researching, and playing some of the “almost forgotten arrangements” of the early jazz bands.
