Father’s Day breakfast on Sunday, June 18, at Castleton Community Volunteer Fire Company from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. The menu will consist of eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits, sausage gravy, home fries, fried apples, french toast, juice, coffee and tea. Nature Camp
Sign up now for this nature study day camp for boys and girls 8-12 years old. Campers will explore the rivers, ponds, forests and meadows at Singing Creek, 3 miles south of Sperryville. Cost is $225 for the two weeks and financial assistance is available. The camp is sponsored by Hearthstone School and the Piedmont Environmental Council. Tournament and Pig Roast
Come and join the fun! Chester Gap Volunteer Fire & Rescue’s annual horseshoe tournament and pig roast on Saturday, June 24. Register by 11 a.m. Tournament starts at 11:30 a.m. at the Chester Gap carnival grounds, DJ music by Michael Ray Williams. The entry free will be $10 per person, $20 per team. There will be first, second and third place awarded to singles and partners. June 27: RappFLOW Buffer Workshop
RappFLOW Stream Buffer Workshop will be held on Tuesday, June 27, from 1 p.m to 4 p.m. Stream buffers are the areas of vegetation (trees, shrubs, and grass) along the stream banks. Keeping our rivers and streams healthy and maintaining diversity in our wildlife depends in part on the vitality of the stream buffers. Come join expert trainer Greg Wichelns, Director of the Culpeper Soil and Water Conservation District, and RappFLOW director Christina Loock to learn more about streams and buffers and how to assess them. Be prepared for a fun afternoon of outdoor fieldwork. Opportunities to be involved in RappFLOWs new volunteer buffer evaluation program will be discussed (although no commitment is necessary).
