The Rappahannock County SherifFs Office has a new chief deputy. Sheriff Connie Compton Smith announced Tuesday afternoon that Scott Jenkins, a sergeant and investigator in the Culpeper Town Police Department, will succeed Chris Williams, who was not reappointed before Smith took office Jar. 1.
“I think he has good qualities that he can bring to the sheriffs office, he has a lot of training,” Smith said. “I feel he and I can work together to provide the best service to the citizens."
Jenkins began his law-enforcement career in 1990 as a jailer at the RCSO. Coincidentally, Jenkins said, that position was open because Chris Williams had moved from being a jailer to a road deputy in the sheriffs office.
Jenkins served in Rappahannock until 1992, when he moved to the Culpeper County Sheriffs Office to be a patrolman and investigator. He eventually rose to the ranks of lieutenant, heading the investigative and SWAT teams and becoming a lead instructor for officer training. In 2004, he left the Culpeper Sheriff s Office to take a position with the Culpeper Town Police, where he has been a sergeant and investigator for the past three years.
