And. for a feast for the eyes, our resident bluebirds have decided they like the berries on Linda’s home made wreaths. Those beautiful little birds, perched on the outdoor wreaths, next to a red bow, would have made a great picture for next year’s Christmas cards.
And on my last hunting day in the woods, I got a very good look at a yellow-bellied sapsucker. They are not uncommon in this area, but you don’t see them that much. This fellow gave me a couple of good long looks, as he came twice to a young hickory tree not 30 feet away. Perhaps, he wanted to make sure I got the identification correct.
Now it is time to put a big pot of stew on the stove, get in some of that dry locust firewood you have been hoarding, get a couple of good books, and hunker down for the winter. But, do get a bit of exercise and take some walks, because you are going to have to be working the garden again before you know it.
