An Amissville man was found guilty Tuesday in Rappahannock County General District Court of selling alcohol to an unauthorized person.
The evidence presented in court showed that James Patrick Foresman sold beer to a man under 21 at Lombardy's Restaurant in Amissville on Oct, 25. Foresman was fined $250 and put on 12 months unsupemsed probation for the Class l misdemeanor. He was also sentenced to 90 days in jail, but will not have to serve any of the sentence as long as he does not violate his probation.
Public defender Rebecca Wade said Foresman has bad vision and. found the customers drivers license difficult to read. He has three pairs of glasses and was wearing the wrong pair while checking the license, she said.
Commonwealth's Attor^ ney Peter Luke said bad vision is not an excuse. The customer’s driver's* license is printed vertically, indicating that he is under 21, and the tact that he was underage is printed in red ink. Luke said.
