The Montpelier Conference Center permit met little opposition. but it was crafted to be tor a much smullervscale operation than what Fletcher hopes to do. The Sera tons worked with theirneighbors to agree on a set of 15 restrictions fer the 175-acre property.
Among those restrictions is a limit of Li outdoor events per year, including tour events with up to 1500 persons and eight events with up to 300 persons. From May through October, no more thun two eveuts per month may be hosted at the property.
Another key difference is the Scrutons are not allowed to lease their property to a commercial firm, which would book events. Fletcher said his plan is to lease his Miller Farm tu such a commercial entity.
County Administrator John McCarthy has recommended approval fer Fletchers application. but with a different set of conditions than what Fletcher is proposing. He said he believes Fletchers submitted conditions are inadequate to protect the public's interest.
McCarthy has based his recommended restrictions fer the property on conditions submitted bv FT. Valley neighbors. He suggests a limit of Li outdoor events per year, with no more thun two per month thrni May through October. Of those events, two may have up to 400 persons, two may have up to J00 persons and the remaining eight may have up to 100 persons. He also recommends that no special consideration be given as to whether the event is fer a churttable organization.
He also recommends that amplified music at events be turned oft'no later thun 10 p.m. And he recommends that the county review the application two yours after operations begin at the Miller Farm.
Fletcher's first application drew an overflowing crowd to the planning commission's October meeting in the County Courthouse. The turnout was so large that some people were forced to stand ui the buck of the room while others found seats ui the courtroom's jury box.
To accommodate what is likely to be another large crowd Wednesday, the planning commission will meet in the auditorium at Rappahannock County High School. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
