With several store fronts vacant and unemployment in the county nearly doubled, county government and business owners are looking for ways to lure more businesses to Rappahannock.
The Board of Supervisors will vote on the creation of an Economic Development Advisory Committee at its next meeting on April 6.
“There are empty store fronts on Main Street in Sperryville," said business owner Barbara Adolfi, who owns and operates The House on Water Street.
There also are empty store fronts and office space in Flint Hill, Washington, Amissville and Woodville.
“We need people whose business is business” to be on the committee, said Adolfi.
Unemployment went from 2.6 to 4.9 percent from December 2007-08, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
