As an example, several years ago an elderly woman was traveling from Pennsylvania to Florida and ended up in our emergency room after a car accident. When she was released, none of the area hotels had a vacancy. Since the woman had nowhere to go. Al offered her a room in his home. She stayed for two days until her brother arrived to take her back.
"I will go to the limit to help someone,” Al says. “And that lady never forgot about it either. Every year, until she died, she sent my family a gift. She just couldn’t get over the fact that a stranger would take her into his home and treat her like family."
