Each Virginia steeplechase meet is requirt'd to have an emergency vet team and horse ambulance on the grounds. Harrison was at Quick Lane’s side within seconds of his fall; the horse ambulance crew was there two minutes later.
The races were held up for an hour and half to allow time for the medical helicopters to hand and take ofT and time for a back-up ambulance to arrive on the grounds.
The rest of the race day — 57 total runners in eight races — continued without incident.
