Residents don’t seem to have any problems with this year’s proposed school budget. At least, that’s what one would think given that only about a dozen attended the School Board hearing on the matter last Thursday, and about half of those were teachers.
School Superintendent Dr. Bob Chappell’s proposed budget of $11,602,017 has changed little since he first presented it to the school board on Feb 10, except for the state’s budgeted amount of $177,632 in stimulus money for facilities improvements.
There are no salary increases, no layoffs, and no increases in funding requests from the county. Facilities spending and a new school bus were put off for future budgets. However, there may be money available this year through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 to pay for needed facilities repairs and upgrades.
