Much has changed since the
Relay for Life, sponsored by the American Cancer Society, started in Rappahannock County 11 years ago.
Many of our volunteers have just burned out from all the work it takes each year to have a successful relay. Some of our survivors have lost their lives during this period. Some have gone into remission and some have had recurrences. Each year there are new names added to the survivor list. Some are older folks, some are teens, some are middle age. some as young as a year old. Needless to say, cancer is not a respecter of persons nor is it a respecter of a bad economy.
Unfortunately, the Relay for Life is May 9 and 10 which is Mother’s Day weekend. This maybe why very few of us, unless more people come forward and help, will be walking the track the night of May 9 and the morning of May.
