somewhat unexpectedly - was a catalyst for other people to express to him their own experiences and feelings. This created, for Creel, a new depth of listening - and of seeing through other people’s eyes - and- meeting, through them, dozens of old dogs still with their “care givers” (as Creel phrases it), or the sense of having known them even after they have died.
There’s an old saying, “When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.” In this case, the poet and photographer were ready - the dogs were ready — and the book appeared.
