In what could result in an additional $250,000 in state funds for Rappahannock schools, Superintendent Dr. Bob Chappell announced at a School Board meeting Tuesday that he had signed a “cost sharing/cost saving” agreement with Madison County schools.
The School Board had authorized Chappell to sign the agreement in March.
Chappell signed the agreement with Madison County Superintendent Brenda Tanner which they had been negotiating over the past year.
“While there is the potential for Rappahannock to receive more state aid as a result of this agreement,” said Chappell, “it also presents an opportunity for our two school divisions to work together to save money....”
This is part of the ongoing effort to decrease the county’s composite index - an index tied to property values which determines the amount of state funding the county receives.
