It all started in 1954 when Dorothy Davis made a dried flower centerpiece for a Thanksgiving dinner at Trinity Episcopal Church. They sold the centerpiece for $3 after the dinner. In 1957 the county s first house tour was sponsored by the historic association to celebrate the Jamestown Exhibition. That was the year Flossie Williamson got involved in the church women s dried flower sale. That was also the year the church women made 100 dried flower arrangements. The Reverend John Frizell drove the women with their flowers in a truck to Seven Comers in Arlington to sell them. Fire and rescue workers from throughout the Piedmont regioi will be seen climbing up and down the sides of a four story tower in Amissville soon. A special use permit for the training tower was approved at the March 2H Board of zoning Appeals meeting. Fire and rescue association spokesman Paul Poling explained how the concrete block building will be used. Poling pointed out that the tower would be “dual purpose” in that it will be used to train both fire and rescue personnel. At their March 30 meeting, the trustees for the Rappahannock County library unanimously selected Grace Sims as the new librarian to fill the position left vacant March 1 by the resignation of Audrey Brents.
