One can’t help but think that this is the way politics is normally: Summertime barbecues, lemonade, and candidates smiling and shaking hands, getting the loyalists motivated one small gathering at a time.
Gone are the huge rallies and pageantry of last year's election; this time around it’s backyards and breakfasts. Big media has moved on.
“These events and the local press are the only way I can get my message out,” says Democrat Delegate Steve Shannon of Fairfax who is running for Virginia Attorney General.
Shannon’s Republican opponent for the office is Ken Cuccinelli, a state senator from Fairfax.
