Sunday lunch at Stonewall Abbey was transformed into a magical experience with the music of Ohver Norden at the keyboard.
Classical, jazz and improvisation flowed seamlessly from the light touch of his fingers. It was as if the music of the angels had come to the Abbey.
“I am studying the faces of the trees", he said, “and I have come to Rappahannock at the invitation of a friend to be closer to nature.” Bom in Belgium, Norden has traveled throughout the U.S. for 10 years. Artist, sculptor, writer and musician, Norden’s work is represented at a gallery in Antwerp. He is leaving for a few weeks, but will return to the Abby in August and will play from noon to 2 p.m. on Sundays. When the hot winds of August blow through the trees, come to listen and be soothed by his music.
Almost Heaven
Ride 2009
Five guys rode from Harrisonburg, Va., to Gaithersburg, Md., via Bperryville, in two days. These guys have a passion for bicycle riding and do a long ride each fall from Pittsburgh to Washington, D.C.
Their “Almost Heaven Ride” is the spring training ride (in addition to weekly rides near home), for the fall event. For the past five years, this group of 15 guys, riding together since 2001, have used their passion for riding to raise money for Operation Second Chance, an organization providing services to wounded soldiers at Walter Reed Hospital.
