a window open for their„cats to get in and out on their back porch. Much to his surprise, a bear was lurking in his kitchen.
“I was yelling at him, face to face, and I seem to remember walking next to him and he went out of the window. Then I realized my pajamas were all shredded and I had all these cuts and bruises on me," Dennis recalled. He suffered a few scratches on his back and chest, cuts on his leg and face, and several bruises. Other than the screen the bear tore through on the porch, no other damage was done to the house.
“He got me all over and I really didn't know I had anyproblem until I saw that my pajamas were all in pieces,” said Dennis. “All he wanted to do was to get out of the window he came in and I was in the way.”
After the bear left, Dennis called the sheriffs office to report the attack, hoping to warn the neighbors.
Dennis said they've had problems with bears in the past, but never like that. Mostly the bears were interested in Barbara’s bee hives and trash cans, which the couple has done away with. Now if the bear returns, Dennis says he 11 be ready.
“I called the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries and they are going to give me a permit to shoot it, which I don’t want to do, but if I find it in the house again I probably would,” he said.
