Farmer Girls is the brainchild of Deanna Child and Deborah William-son, both real life farmer girls who know all too well the difficulties involved in establishing a thriving local food network.

Child, who operates Flat Rock Farm near Orlean, and Williamson, who runs Seven Oaks Lavender Farm with her mother, Edith, have been involved with a number of local food initiatives over the last few years.

The concept — connecting local buyers with local farmers — is simple enough. The logistics, however, are a bear. It’s difficult, for instance, to predict demand, making it tough to get farmers to commit to growing crops for a local, unproven market.

Child and Williamson hope to help buyers and farmers
