Let’s not forget to thank Richie Burke, Gary Settle and Mike Leake for their long hours of work and to Bill Fletcher for the use of his field for this year’s Fourth of July celebration. Our county is really lucky to have people like these to work together and provide such enjoyable times for everyone.

Last Wednesday afternoon when the Rappahannock News was on final deadline, contractor Franklin Mechanical was working on the sewer line in front of the newspaper office with heavy machinery. Every so often our computers would go down, with the office vibrating from the heavy equipment working on the sewer line. We asked if they could dig up another section of Main Street until we got the paper out in a couple of hours. They understood our situation and, yet, they too had a job to do.
After about 20 minutes, Gary Schwartz, mechanical engineer with WW Associates, which is managing the construction of the wastewater treatment plant as well as the sewage collection system in the streets, came in and told us that he had moved the workers down the street until we got off board with the paper. He often checked back to see if we had finished.
We want to thank Gary for making this happen. It is another example of a Rappahannock resident helping out in a time of need.
