Rappahannock’s third annual Fourth of July celebration went off with a bang Saturday, as organizers noted recordbreaking attendance, making the event the biggest yet.
“We hoped to have 5,000 patrons and I think we met that goal,” said Gary Settle, co-chairman of the Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department’s July Fourth Committee, which organized the event. “The place was packed. We had very little parking left at the end of the evening.”
With new attractions such as tethered hot-air balloon rides and $2,500 in raffle prizes, combined with the wonderful weather. patrons turned out in droves from across the area to celebrate the country's independence.
“The weather was wonderful and I think it all came together this year. We were very pleased with the crowds,” said committee co-chairman Richie Burke. “We really wanted to make a small-town, family type of event and we succeeded in doing that. I think a lot of people enjoyed it .”
