The board of Zoning Appeals found itself unable to vote last Wednesday on the application of the Child Care and Learning Center for a variance from the rear setback requirements of the zoning ordinance Sharon Luke, Acting Board Chairman in the absence of Lee Bird, disqualified herself because she had previously represented the school in other matters. The Rappahannock Historical Society is again open for the summer for visiting and research. The Society maintains files on over 500 Rappahannock family names and both the librarian, Cathy Knuepfer, and the Historian, Helen Holsehuh are ready to assist you in your "Roots" search. Miss Cathy Jenkins of Sperryville is the Society’s Youth Employment worker. She will have the building open from 9 a m., to 4:30 p m., Monday through Friday
Tom and Kay Johnson, who own the Johnson Trout Fishing Farm in Old Hollow, outside of Sperryville, recently had a friend visit them who used to run a similar kind of farm in North Carolina. The friend’s advice: “grow tomatoes." Kay Johnson readily admits they’ll never get rich running this farm. They “have too much fun to make a lot of money " The Johnsons, who employ local residents Richard and Linda Dwyer, keep their fish farm open all year round They explain that even in December people like to try out the rods they got as Christmas presents.
