Persons wishing to participate will be accepted on a “first come, first served" basis with a maximum of 16 participants. The workshop is limited to persons who are not professional actors but who may have done some amateur acting as well as to those who have never acted. Participants must be at least 15 years of age.
“I hope this workshop will attract people of all ages and backgrounds from across the community," said Turban-Maazel.
Peter Hombostel, RAAC Community Theatre Artistic Director, sees the workshop as a possible stepping-off for community members who would like to be involved in local productions.
“We have several plays and staged readings planned for the 2009-2010 season and look forward to including workshop participants," said Hombostel, who soon will be holding auditions for “The Shepherds Play,” the theatre’s traditional holiday production.
The areas that Turban-Maazel plans to cover in her workshop include: The Essence of Acting, Acting as Conversation, Physical and Vocal Exercises, Memorization, Performance and Nerves. Each day’s workshop will be six hours long plus two half-hour breaks.
Turban-Maazel’s acting background includes extensive work in both theatre and movies in her native Germany, culminating in winning the prestigious and coveted Bambi award as Best Actress of 1983. After moving to the U.S., she formed an acting company in New York and has continued to do some acting here in the United States. She is the wife of conductor Lorin * Maazel.
The fee for the workshop is $100 which Turban-Maazel has asked to go to the RAAC Community Theatre Fund for future productions. A check for this amount needs to be included with each request for participation. If a
