Following her heart
To those who know her best, Linda Smith is a soft-spoken and nurturing wife, mother, grandmother and friend. To us, she’s also a thoughtful, kind and compassionate caregiver. As a clinical tech assisting the 2 South 2 West nursing staff, Linda’s main duties include recording vital signs, performing diabetic finger sticks, and helping our patients with their feeding and bathing needs. But as far as Linda is concerned, the most important part of her job is getting to know our patients.
"I really enjoy sharing conversations with the patients and learning about their lives,” Linda says. "For example, we have a patient here right now who is about my age, and I feel a special closeness to her. When she leaves. I’m going to miss her because she’s such a wonderful person.”
Linda has been with Fauquier Health for the last five years of her career, but enjoys her job so much, she avoids any mention of the “r” word.
"Awhile back, I thought about retiring, but soon realized 1 would miss providing care on a daily basis. I really feel a strong need to help patients, especially the ones who are not able to care for themselves.”
