In terms of popularity in Virginia’s horse country, spring steeplechasing is closely shadowed by the hunter pace series that runs February through May.
Area hunt clubs host spring paces, offering optimum and fast time pairs over two- to three-mile courses with series-end prizes.
This fall, a new addition to the sport has emerged.
Four area hunt clubs are joining for a fall hunter pace series, open events without qualification or attire requirements, set up over far longer courses for teams of up to four riders.

Th.e Bull Run Hunt started holding a fall fun pace a few years ago: Rappahannock joined last year.
This year, Casanova and Farmington joined and the four clubs combined to offer the same classes and similar rales.
Event dates are: Sept. 27 Bull Run Hunt at Peacock Farm near Culpeper; Oct. 11 Rappahannock Hunt at Elmwood Farm near Rixeyville; Oct. 18 Casanova Hunt at Acorn Farm near Warrenton; and Nov. 8
