Virginia steeplechasing figures prominently in the inaugural running of the U.S. Steeplechase Championships Saturday, Oct. 17.
The innovative event consists of 12 races contested for $700,000 in purse money at two different race meets: the International Gold Cup at Great Meadow in The Plains and the Far Hills Race Meet in Far Hills, N.J.

To add to the glamor of the championships, the National Steeplechase Association has entered into a three-year multimedia deal with NBC Universal Sports to televise five hours of live coverage of the event, as well as to provide online and broadband coverage, beginning at 12 p.m. on race day.
