I am responding to last week's Letter to the Editor, "Washington has become a ghost town." by Robert Alcott.

When newcomers move to "Little Washington" I am beginning to suspect that it is because of the beauty of the town and very little ethnic diversity And because it is a small town some thought that they could drive up and down the roads at high rates of speed while intoxicated. I am speaking only of "Little Washington." nowhere else. I also have witnessed outright rudeness towards staff at the Treasurer's Office at tax time.

If you live here the first thing that outsiders have to understand is the psychological mystique of Little Washington Virginians who were bom in the town My family has been here since the 1800s. We have a deep Civil War history And that history has taught us to stick together m hard times and the god ones .Cod in case some have not recognized, we are in a recession. The reason is both political parties had a hand m spending money like it
