trend among women in their publication, “Why are Women Still Not Running for Office?” The report shows that wellqualified women are less likely than men to run for office owing to varying factors including: negative attitudes towards campaigning, lack of recruitment. family dynamics, and a low self-confidence in qualifications and in success. As regrettable as these reasons for not engaging in political sendee may seem, there is hope for women’s participation to increase. The study also showed that one out of every four women in a sample polling would be more likely to think about running for office if she had the opportunity to attend a training program sponsored by a political organization.
Women, therefore, are approximately 40 percent more likely than men to respond favorably to the notion of working with a political organization to develop skills and connections to run for office at some point in the future.
This is where organizations such a WeLEAD come into play. Though WeLEAD is not politically affiliated nor does it actively seek women to engage in specific causes, it provides women the skills necessary to pursue a political future. Each program session is dedicated to training on a particular topic.
