years, both they and their llamas have left a bit more of an impression on the county, and its residents, than just anyone would - the llamas appearing in Christmas parades, at schools, store openings and as fourlegged therapy animals at mental-health institutions around the region.
Their llamas have packed many awards and blue ribbons and in March one of them won two grand championships in the prestigious Virginia Classic Llama Show, a rare double award.
Inclined to support efforts that would help Rappahannock remain rural, they volunteered time and resources to various Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection • RLEPi projects, most conspicuously helping bring about the passage in 2006 of a county lighting ordinance, and other causes.
“More than any other individuals,” says former RLEP president Paul R. Farmer, “the Rappahannock community owes Gwen and Clyde a debt of gratitude for this protection of one or our more precious natural resources: dark skies.”
