•The hounds were cast first at Fielding Mountain, about onehalf
n^ile from Double Gate?). They struelt a line and after a short run placed a gray reynard up r*tree. The hounds were then cast on the other side of the mountain. They struck a red fox. which circled the mountain twice and then crossed the valley “toward Jubilee mountain, where the riders met the hounds coming back from the top. The supposition is that the hounds ran in on Jubilee and Reynard found safety. At this time many of the hunters hacked back to the cars and gave tired horses a rest.
Melvin Poe, huntsman of the Old Dominion hounds, and other whips, went into Jubilee mountain and got the bounds out of the brush, where they had denned the fox. It took a while for Huntsman Burke to call the hounds, but. after difficulty, he got the pack off the mountain and across the Culpeper-Sperryville road to Mason mountain. There the hunt continued over Mason and onto Little Mason mountain, where the hounds were unable to pick up a new scent.
Since it was by that time after 3 o’clock in the afternoon, it was time to repai to Mt. Prospect, home of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Miller, where the Rappahannock Hunt was host to the breakfast.
