Within the past forty years, the world has been literally plunged into two devastating wars. These two conflicts have caused suffering, starvation, and economic instability. They have accomplished nothing! The majority of the populace wanted nothing to do with these entanglements. Yet, a few cast many into a period of .destruction of which they wanted po part. You, the students of Washington High School, will help decide whether the world will once again be forced into a state of chaos, confusion, and cruelty. Iindeed, it is truly a big decision. It will decide the fate of the world!
You can play a very potent role in bringing- about world peace. Start in your own community! Ask those around you their opinions of the hydrogen bomb, communism, and the United .Nation’s Organization. Get them to think in terms of national affairs. Organize recreational and social activities that will improve your neighborhood. Keep yourself informed as to present day happenings.
Offhand I can name four or five magazines in our library that have numerous articles concerning conditions in other countries. Know Vhat the rest of the world is doing. Establish a daily habit of reading the news and editorials of a known newspaper. Be familiar with the comments of Lowell Thomas, Fulton Lewis Jr., and Gabriel Heater. Take advantage of the facilities that you have here at Washington High School. There are countless European students that would give anything to take your place.
