'Tis to be hoped all Rappahannock citizens ate their pancakes Tuesday morning, for a series of dire events awaits the one who fails to have pancakes on Shrove Tuesday. Some folks say the year’s prosperity hangs in the balance, others state that pancake eating on Shrove Tuesday assures good health for the year, a new one was added by a local citizen. He says he always heard that your house will burn down if you don’t eat pancakes on this day.

Robert Mercer Menefee says nobody comes to 6ee him now since the story of "San Jacinto” told about the ghosts. He thinks folks must have failed to read the part telling that the ghosts are lost how because the house is changed.
In trying to be helpful, we suggest that he might furnish asafetida bags to each guest as he-— or she—enters the house. That used to be a standing remedy for warding off all ills and maybe it would disperse the poor, bewildered, lost ghosts of “San Jacinto.” If it doesn’t dispel the ghosts, it would certainly give the wearer something else to think about besides ghosts!

It’s back behind bars for one of the prisoners Who conked the Warren sheriff on the head several weeks ago. Two prisoners, handcuffed together, slugged the sheriff and made their get-away. Word was received Monday from the home of one of the escaped prisoners, W. E. Thomas, 25, that he had been captured in his home town in North Carolina.
Sheriff news over in Greene county is still going strong. More witnesses arrive almost daily in the trial of the sheriff for neglect of duty in the arrest of Winfred Deane last October 8. The ouster trial of the Greene sheriff in December resulted in a hung jury.
Rappahannock’s Sheriff Lillard <eems pretty mild and meek after the^e^ events in adjoining counties. It might be a good idea, though, to get Johnny Jenkins to do some reporting on his hero, “Jim.”
