Let’s see what makes Virginia’s grants low. In this State the amount of the assistance grant for which a recipient is eligible is determined from an assistance plan, or budget, prepared for each recipient. The individual assistance plan is based on providing tile minimum essential needs of persons included in the assistance payment. Standard minimum allowances for food, clothing, personal care, and household supplies, and actual costs of items such as shelter are used in determining the amount necessary for adequate physical maintenance of the recipient.
