Founder’s Day Program
The Parent-Teacher’s Association erf the Washington Hi<rh School presented a Founder’s Day program at their meeting held in the high school auditorium on Monday evening, commemorating the birthday anniversary of the founding of the P.-T. A. organization, which was first organized by Alice McLellan Birney and Phoebe Apperson Hearst.
E. M. Jones gave a talk on the purpose of Founder’s Day, which was:to honor the founders of the P.-T. A. He included a short sketch in the lives of these two women, who were head of the organization.
A pageant entitled “P.-T. A. Corner Stones” which include the home, school, church and community, was presented. Those taking part in the pageant were Mrs. L. J. Turner, Mrs. Taylor Updike, Mrs. R. L. Cheatham, Mrs. George H. Davis, Jr., Mrs. Downing Wood, Mrs. A. M. Verner, Mrs. R. L. Massie and Mrs. D. C. Link.
Miss Kathryn Cahen ..sang several musical selections and a di'et was sung by Miss Jo Ellen Worth and Miss Lucy Catherine Bowie.
A collection was taken up to be contributed to the national Parent-Teacher’s Association.
A birthday party was held at the conclusion of the meeting, at which time those who attended the program were served punch and birthday cake.
