A couple of new items from notion counters -will appeal to many home sewers. Ono is a folding cutting board, which provides a spacious flat surface for pattern cutting and protects table tops. The board is not an expensive buy and it folds conveniently for storing.
Dressmakers’ carbon paper along with colored chalk pencil is handy for marking notches and darts. With the carbon laid face up underneath, two matching pieces of fabrics can be marked' at the same time. Miss Smith prefers the pencil to cutting notches with scissors. Cutting notches outward is a nuisance. And notches c-’t into the edge reduce the seam allowance.
Two rulers . . . transparent ones if possible are helpful sewing aids. A six inch ruler is good for measuring hems and making corners accurate. An 18 inch ruler or a yardstick is handy for laying patterns on the straight of the material.
