Every decade the United States Government takes an authentic survey of the entire ‘state of the Union.’ The purpose of a census of this sort is obvious. It is t<J show where we, you and I, stand among ourselves and where y/e, collectively, stand among other nations. By a cross-section of this kind, we are able to present an average to aid every farmer, landowner, merchant, in short everyone is figuring his standing in his own community. But the main reason for a census is for comparison with the preceding census. We are certainly more advanced, materialistically speaking, than we were in 1940.
Our Survey is more than just a ‘counting of heads.’ The government knows there are approximately 151 million citizens living in America. Rather each citizen will be asked his name, age, sex, race, marital status, occupation, working hours, income, and whether he owns his own home. However, only one person in five will be asked about his income and only one in thirty concerning his marriage. This is expected to give an accurate sample and save the taxpayers money.
The census begins on the first •day of April and in order to make the effort successful we should give the agent all the help possible. There is no need to be reticent, or hold back any information because, to the government, you will be primarily a number. Xo names will be involved. This is assured as census takers can be
