The opening of spring means that auction sales will start up again. There are two scheduled within riding distance of us this Saturday—but -ow can a fellow see Bing Crosby and attend two sales at the same time?

One of the sales is at Bolivar, near Harpers Ferry, and the other is at Big Spring Filling Station, 4 miles north of Luray. Both of them list antiques and ah! that intriguing item “other articles too numerous to mention.’’

Anyone who attends auction sales oughta’ have his head examined. Make an appointment for me at the same time you arrange yours.

This is one deviation from the usual trend to pick on poor ole’ Bill Lyne, the county agent. This time the sentiment is actually pity. After all his crusading, begging, pleading, and cajolling with the farmers of the county:.

“Please don’t burn the broomsedge; cut it and let it form food for the pitiful soil,’’ what do you think they did Monday night? Called him out to help fight a sedge-burning fire that got out of hand! They say most of his language was unprintable— and who can blame him!

It is only common sense to cull the farm woods as you cull the poultry flock. Put the culls on the wood pile. Keep the good trees to grow’ into sawlogs, veneer logs, or some other valuable product.
