Washington Gains Fame
On Location—
“Near Woodville”
Rappahannock's county seat got itself plastered with publicity last summer by being the location of the all-lady government, but the newest angle on the story is locating the “First Washington” by saying that it is “near Woodville.”
Mayor Dorothy C. Davis, at the town council meeting Tuesday night, reported on a letter received from a magazine editor in Cuba. The letter was addressed to “Washington, near Woodville, in the United States.”
The Cuban magazine had run the story, complete with pictures, which had appeared in Collier’s magazine telling of the ladies beHUf elected, and the man sent a copy"4 and a letter of congratulations to Mayor Davis.
The regular business meeting, with all 'the council present, saw discussion of many matters.
Upon report of V. H. Rossen, of the Northern Virginia Power Company, the council agreed to publish the following:
“Sec. 37. Provisions of Personal Property: Any person who shall wilfully destroy or damage any real or personal property, owned or leased or used by the Town of Washington, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be punished as provided by the Municipal Code.”
This publication is emphasized because Mr. Rossen had been called upon three times lately to replace one certain street light, near the Episcopal church, and he reported evidence that the bulb had been shot out by possibly an airrifle.
