If anyone ever told him about the work that goes along with that farm and those cattle-plus the tough breaks that can and do occur—he either doesn’t hear it or doesn’t take it in.
In a city newspaper there’s a pressman who walks around with an oil can. He keeps the presses oiled and running, and that’s all he does—a stated number of hours and no overtime. A linotype operator walks into the building in the morning, cuts on the switch to the machine, and there he sits and works until the ibell announces “quittin’ time.” Another man does nothing, but make-up; a reporter probably doesn’t know which end of the press is up; and many another man, with some specific job, has no idea of the process of. the printing.
