The business meeting of the association started with an address on “The Co-operative Extension Service” by Aubrey Gates, Arkansas dierctor of extension service, who received atomic applause from the county agents. Dr. Crates is also chairman of committee on organization and policy of the Land* Grant College Association. His principal point and charge was that the U.S. Agricultural Department operates beyond its legal assignment^ in that it is beginning to operate a hand-medown federal extension program instead of one formulated by the people of each state according to their individual needs and wants! The remainder of the day was devoted to outstanding talks directed at professional improvement, too numerouse to mention. Actually, it was not only my first NACAA convention, but the first of any fort that all the speakers were good or better!
The inspiration from these talks, as well as that garnered from the comparatively few county agents (considering the large number present) which time allowed conversational contact individually was wonderful.
